Every year, the UAE makes changes to its laws to ensure residents enjoy their life in the country. In 2021, seven new rules are introduced that you should know about, especially if you’re planning to stay in Dubai for a long time.
The President of the UAE, HH Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan approved the law to ease restrictions on extra-marital relationships that allow unmarried couples to have a child without the need to get married. Both parents should have identification papers and travel documents.
However, this is only allowed when the child is acknowledged and cared for. The law was approved on November 28, 2021, and is effective by January 2, 2022.
The UAE has a new law that addresses concerns regarding online technologies and their applications and abuse. It gives the courts power to let them confiscate devices, software, content, and other items used in the pursuit of the crime and delete the information.
One of the biggest shifts in the UAE is that the working week has changed from Sunday to Thursday to Monday to Friday. The law came into effect on January 3, 2022, and only applies to government workers. However, some private companies have changed their working week as well to reflect the new law.
Aside from that, new labor laws were introduced that paved the way for flexible working hours for private companies. The law allows private businesses to choose temporary and flexible work, freelance jobs, condensed work hours, and shared jobs.
It was announced recently that unvaccinated citizens will not be allowed to travel abroad, effective January 10, 2022. On the other hand, those who are vaccinated need to have had their booster if they want to travel overseas.
There have been many significant changes throughout the year when it comes to the pandemic. On December 21, 2021, the latest rules included adjustments to social distancing measures, which became one meter from two meters. Another is that restaurants can have up to 10 guests on one table, while cafes can have six. Dancing is still not allowed as well.
If you are visiting a government facility, you need a green pass on the AI Hosn app. Moreover, hotels can now operate at full capacity, while entertainment places can run at 70%.
It’s also important that you know that face masks are still required here. Finally, guests are not allowed to consume food or drinks from the bar; instead, they should be sat at a table.
Drugs laws in the UAE have relaxed since November 2021. The new law provides people who have been convicted of drug use and possession the chance to visit secure detention that offers treatment and education programs. Additionally, deportation of expats convicted of drug crimes is not necessary anymore but falls on the shoulders of the judge. Finally, the minimum prison time has been reduced for first-time offenders.
The UAE has been a hub for travelers and expats for decades. Its liberal laws and freedom have made it a popular tourist destination and a new home for many. Since the UAE has the lowest crime rate considering its population, it’s only natural that the country will keep evolving and changing its laws to address problems and give the people more freedom.
